On the day of the latest Global Climate Strike and a day after the European Parliament declared a climate emergency, the Young People's Trust for the Environment (YPTE) has produced an information sheet for parents, which gives them some  basic information about climate change, why it is such an important issue and how it may affect them and their children.  It is particularly designed for people who have little or no knowledge of the issues around climate change and who have taken little interest in the current situation.

The information sheet provides two links to YPTE's website, with one enabling parents wishing to find out more to access more detailed information about climate change and the other giving some suggestions for simple actions they can take to reduce the environmental impacts of their daily lives.

The information leaflet can be downloaded at http://ypte.org.uk/downloads/climate-change-for-parents

The linked pages on YPTE's website are:

If you believe the information it contains will be helpful to parents at St Mary's CofE Academy, I would be extremely grateful if you could share this link with them, so that they can learn more about this vital issue.

YPTE has also created a suite of lessons about climate change for use at Key Stage 2, including a simple science experiment to demonstrate the impact of carbon dioxide on global warming.  The lesson plan can be downloaded here: http://ypte.org.uk/lesson-plans/climate-change.

I hope that teachers and parents at St Mary's CofE Academy will find the materials useful.

With thanks and best wishes
